On 10 April 2025, at Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre in Tāmaki Makaurau, M9 will kick-start its season with the powerful iteration: Te Ōhanga Māori – A Pathway to Prosperity.
The Māori economy has grown considerably faster than the overall economy over the past decade, and entrepreneurship has continued with a solid growth trajectory. The recent findings in MBIE’s Te Ōhanga Māori 2023 report confirm remarkable growth of 83% in the Māori asset base from 2018 to 2023.
Today, the Māori economy stands as a testament to Māori prosperity. But what does this mean for us as everyday people? This instalment of M9 will go beyond the numbers and answer the pātai — how does the Māori economy pave the way to prosperity, and how do we continue to build on our economic sovereignty?
M9 is taking what we have seen in the report out of the boardroom and bringing it to the people. Nine kaikōrero will highlight Māori contributions that have long shaped our country's unique economic base on a global scale, and each will delve into their unique experiences in Te Ōhanga Māori.

This M9 promises to spark action, challenge thinking, and inspire the next wave of Māori innovators and economic powerhouses.
The lineup of Māori trailblazers and economic leaders taking the M9 stage includes:
- The Honourable Nanaia Mahuta — Former Labour Minister | Strategic Adviser
- Mavis Mullins MNZM — Director of Paewai Mullins Shearing
- Traci Houpapa MNZM — Chair of Federation of Māori Authorities
